Renovation of a dream villa that has found new life in simplicity

A challenging, fun project where Emanuela Esposito worked by bringing back to the center the two columns that are fulcrum of the building’s perspective.

The owners, a dynamic couple in the film industry, fell in love with Ocean’s unique atmosphere and moved from Rome. They purchased a weathered villa from the early 1900s, aiming to restore its charm without altering its essence. Architect Esposito opposed demolishing the villa’s massive columns, envisioning a poetic entrance to a magnificent white villa. On a gloomy day, she imagined the rustle of linen curtains and aromatic garden scents. She convinced the clients that this spot would become the most cherished by their guests.

The building was completely transformed, with larger glass surfaces and a color change from dark orange to white, accented with sand-colored ribbons. The final effect resembles a beautiful Miami townhouse in South Beach. A swimming pool, linked by a “ceramic tongue” to the barbeque area, connects the main building and the annex, near a magnificent fig tree. Constraints became the project’s concept, with Architect Esposito distributing the building over three small levels connected by a bulky wooden staircase. This staircase, now a central element, emphasizes the journey through increasingly private spaces.

The choice of light-colored furniture, candid draperies, and discreet decorations conveys the purity and lightness of the project. Everything appears suave and intangible. Resin floors inside and out, with wood and enameled iron used for the staircase, emphasize uniformity. On the second level, vertical cuts between rooms (shower, sleeping area, dressing room) create permeability, continuing the dialogue with the staircase. From the beautiful terrace, admire the pool, sea, and pine forest foliage. Lightweight fabrics curtain the canopied bed and outdoor living area, perfect for relaxing and entertaining on warm summer evenings.
